Boil Perm Guide

Supplies: Doll, Straws cut in 1 ½ inch sections, Bobby pins, Comb, Medium size sauce pan, Bowl and Water

Water

Stove

Towel

1. Wash the dolls hair using shampoo and then comb through with conditioner to remove any tangles then rinse

2. Leave hair wet

3. Separate about a ¼ inch (8 mm) section of hair

4. Comb the hair to ensure it is even and smooth

5. Wrap the ¼ inch (8 mm) section of hair around the straw

6. Be sure tuck the ends under as you wrap it to ensure consistency in the curl

7. Hold the hair into place by sliding a bobby pin over the hair and through the straw. You might need to use two depending on the size of the pins

8. Repeat these steps until the entire head is succumbed with straws

9. Like this!

10. Now would be a good time to fill a bowl with ice water (big enough to fit the head of a doll)

11. Next boil a medium sauce pan full of water (big enough to fit the head of a doll)

12. Once it is boiling "dunk" the hair into the water and let sit for 30 seconds or so. Do not let the doll touch the sides of the pan, she will melt.

13. Then remove from the boiling water

14. Next "dunk" the hair in the bowl of cold water for 10 - 15 seconds

15. Then remove and pat dry with the towel and let air dry for 2-3 days, the longer the better

To get a tighter set of curls you can put a nylon (trouser sock) over the hair to hold the curls tighter

Thanks to Sean for this great suggestion!

16. Remove all of the pins and straws

After indivdually removing the pins & straws

17. I then pull the curls apart with my fingers after removing the straws

No I diin't stick my finger in a light socket!

18. To settle down the curls I rinse her hair with conditioner (don't use super hot water)

19. After the conditioner rinse I gently comb through the curls and let her air dry (No blow dryer)

Hair Styling Tips

To control those "crazy 80's" bangs I put a wash cloth over the damp hair wrapped with a hairband

I use a push pin and a small elastic to keep certain style in place

How to Dye a Jem dolls hair with RIT©

For this one I have used a regular starcapped Jem

Before being dyed

1. Boil water in small sauce pan

**I wear old clothes in case it spills over or splashes on me

2. Slowly add the dye powder

(More or less for color)

3. Stir the powder until it is completly dissolved. Reduce heat until it is hot but not boiling.

4. Use a turkey baster (Cheap one because it will be stained) and apply the dye mixture to the roots

5. Continue to add the dye to the roots while keeping the rest of the hair out of the mixture

**Be sure to not let the doll touch the hot pan directly or the stove - she will melt!

6. Make sure to apply the mixture to the back of the head as well

7. Once the roots are as dark as you would like the hair to be you can "dunk" the rest of her in the mixture until the color you want is reached

**Please note that the color will lighten once washed and dried

8. Remove the dolls hair from the mixture. Make sure to not get it on the counter it might not come off.

9. Wash her hair with a mild shampoo then rinse until it is all out

10. Condition and comb through then rinse

**I always leave a little conditioner in her hair it makes it smoother - but don't leave too much

11. Pat dry with an old rag or towel

**It will stain the towel

12. Finally you can blow dry her or let her air dry, then style as desired

GNG Jem w/ Dyed Hair

**Same process but I let the water become cool to not melt the tinsel

I will be adding some more hair styling tips very soon!
